Wood Fired Saunas UK (woodfiredsaunas.co.uk) is an independent publication about wood-fired and outdoor sauna in the UK. This page explains what personal information the site collects, why, where it goes, how long it is kept, and how to ask for it to be corrected or deleted. It is written to be read, not skimmed past.
What we collect, and when
The site collects personal information in four situations, each one started by you:
- Newsletter signup — your email address, plus a note of which page you signed up from. Used only to send the monthly digest. Legal basis: consent, which you give by signing up and can withdraw by unsubscribing.
- Contact form — your name, email address, and message. Used only to read and reply to your message. Legal basis: legitimate interest in answering people who write to us.
- Listing submissions and suggested edits — your name, email address, your connection to the sauna, and the business details you provide. Used to review the submission and contact you about it. Business details (name, location, website) may be published in the directory; your personal details are not published. Legal basis: legitimate interest in running an accurate directory.
- Visiting the site — anonymous, aggregate analytics only. See the section below and the cookies page. No account exists for visitors, and no cookies are set unless you accept analytics when asked.
Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics, but only if you accept it when asked. Storage is denied by default, so nothing is set before you choose, and rejecting means nothing is stored and nothing is reported. If you accept, what reaches Google is aggregate usage data — which pages are read, roughly where visitors come from — not a profile of you, and no advertising identifiers are used in any case. You can change your mind at any time on the cookies page. The site also uses Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless by design, always on, and reports aggregate page views only. Neither tool is used for advertising.
Where your information is stored
The site does not sell or share personal information with anyone for marketing. It uses a small number of service providers to run:
- Supabase — the site's database, where newsletter addresses, contact messages, and submissions are stored.
- Vercel — hosting. Standard server logs (including IP addresses) exist transiently as part of running any website; the site also rate-limits its forms using IP addresses held briefly in memory, never written to a database.
- Resend — sends the email notifications and digest emails.
- Google Analytics — aggregate usage data, as described above.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter addresses — until you unsubscribe, or until the newsletter stops existing.
- Contact messages — kept while the conversation is live, then reviewed and deleted when no longer needed.
- Submissions — kept while the related listing is in the directory, so we can trace where listing information came from.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the personal information the site holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. For newsletter emails, the fastest route is the unsubscribe link in any digest. For anything else, use the contact form and say what you want done — requests are answered by a person, not a queue.
If you are not satisfied with how a request is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Listing information about businesses
The directory publishes information about sauna businesses — names, locations, websites, booking details — gathered from public sources and from operators themselves. Where a listing names a sole trader, that can be personal information; the legal basis for publishing it is legitimate interest in running an accurate public directory. Any operator can ask for their listing to be corrected or removed via the contact form.
Changes to this notice
If what the site collects changes, this page changes first, and the date at the top moves. No silent changes.
